Microsoft postpones retail Xbox 360 Minecraft release

PanARMENIAN.Net - Those who have been waiting to buy an old fashioned disc copy of the Xbox 360 version of Minecraft will have to wait a little longer. Microsoft has decided to delay the retail release of the hit downloadable sandbox game for several more weeks, Neowin reports.

Originally, Microsoft was aiming to release the Minecraft retail edition on April 30, where it would have had all of the content made for the downloadable version up to the game's ninth title update.

However, Microsoft's Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb took to his Twitter account to announce the delay of the Minecraft retail launch: “In order to include the very latest content, the retail version for Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition has been delayed until June 4.”

The note did not specify exactly what content the disc version is waiting for, but we can guess it's going to be delayed to include the 10th Minecraft title update from its developer 4J Studios. Disc owners of Minecraft will still be able to play against their downloadable counterparts and will receive all of the same downloadable updates to the game after the disc version is released.

The downloadable version of Minecraft for the Xbox 360 has sold over six million units since its launch nearly a year ago. Recently, Microsoft announced that players of the game have logged over one billion hours inside Minecraft.
