Tribeca announces award in memory of Oscar-nommed writer Nora Ephron

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Tribeca Film Festival is honoring Nora Ephron with an award in her memory, The Hollywood Reporter said.

TFF organizers announced on Tuesday that the $25,000 prize, supported by Vogue.com, will be presented to a female writer or director who embodies the spirit of the legendary filmmaker. The winner of the inaugural award will be announced at the annual Women’s Filmmaker Brunch on April 25. TFF co-founder Jane Rosenthal and Sally Singer, creative digital director of Vogue, will present the award.

“Nora Ephron’s work influenced screenwriters, filmmakers and moviegoers,” said Rosenthal. “She was a great friend to the festival since its inception, and I had the privilege to know her and be in absolute awe of her. She did it all brilliantly, with wit and wisdom that went straight to the heart.”

“The Nora,” as it’s dubbed, will be awarded annually to a woman filmmaker whose film is making its North American, international or world premiere at the festival. This year, eight women are eligible.

Ephron died on June 26, 2012, from pneumonia, a complication of her acute myeloid leukemia. She was nominated for an Academy Award in 1990 for best original screenplay for When Harry Met Sally… Other memorable films include Sleepless in Seattle, You’ve Got Mail and Julie & Julia.
