Amazon buys Siri rival Evi - report

PanARMENIAN.Net - Amazon has completed the acquisition of Siri rival Evi, according to a report, Digital Spy said.

The retail giant has purchased the personal assistant from British start-up True Knowledge for $26 million (£17m), TechCrunch understands.

The move sparks rumours that Amazon is planning to introduce the service to its Kindle range, as well as fuelling speculation that the firm is planning to add a smartphone to the line.

Amazon recently appointed former Windows Phone executive Charlie Kindel to work on a mystery project believed to be a Kindle smartphone, but the device remains unannounced at this time.

Evi is currently available for iOS and Android devices, though the service narrowly avoided being pulled from the App Store at launch as Apple deemed it too similar to Siri.

Amazon is yet to officially confirm that it has acquired Evi.
