Russia, South Korea to lift visa requirements

PanARMENIAN.Net - Russia plans to sign an agreement with South Korea in September to mutually scrap visa requirements for visits shorter than 30 days, Russia’s Ambassador to Korea Konstantin Vnukov said on Thursday, April 18, according to RIA Novosti.

“I think we are at the final stage of preparing an agreement to allow visa-free travel for holders of all types of passports for a period of less than 30 days. It is now being discussed. There is also a radical proposal to increase the visa-free travel period to 90 days,” the Russian ambassador said in an interview with Voice of Russia radio.

The agreement is to be ready by the time a meeting between Russian and South Korean presidents takes place on the sidelines of the G20 summit in St. Petersburg in September. The document, if signed and ratified, is to come into force in early 2014.

The deal to ease visa rules will be part of a package of bilateral treaties in various spheres, such as trade and scientific cooperation.
