Putin ‘most popular politician’ in Moldova, poll says

PanARMENIAN.Net - Russian President Vladimir Putin is the most popular politician in Moldova, a recent opinion poll by Magenta Consulting has found, according to RIA Novosti.

The survey shows 74 percent of Moldovans trust Putin, another 49 percent of the respondents favor German Chancellor Angela Merkel, and some 47 percent of Moldovans support US President Barack Obama.

The Moldovan politicians lag behind the foreign leaders, Russia's Ekho Moskvy radio station said, referring to the survey, which said the country’s former president Vladimir Voronin enjoys 18.5 percent of support.

Meanwhile, current Moldovan leader Nicolae Timofti has support of just 0.6 percent of the respondents, the poll found.

In Russia, Putin’s approval rating is 48 percent, according to a March survey by the state-run pollster VTsIOM.
