Samsung posts record Galaxy S4 sales

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Samsung Galaxy S4 has sold six million units since it launched in April, the company has claimed, according to Digital Spy.

An unnamed Samsung executive told Korean newspaper Chosun (via TechRadar) that the phone shipped four million units before the end of April, and has sold six million as of May 10.

"As of the end of April, we supplied four million Galaxy S4 handsets to telecommunication operators around the world," the Samsung executive claims.

"As of Friday [May 10], we have sold more than six million units and we predict that we could break the ten million mark by as early as the end of this month."

It is unclear if the figures are sales made to retail or made to customers.

Either way, the Samsung Galaxy S3 took three weeks to sell three million to retail - itself a company record - while the S2 took 55 days to reach the same milestone.

Samsung is reportedly planning to launch a long-rumoured Galaxy S4 Mini, which is expected to ship with a smaller form factor, reduced specs and a lower price tag.

Samsung is also believed to be working on a water and dust-proof edition dubbed the Galaxy S4 Activ, which has been tipped for release in mid-July alongside the S4 Mini.

A Galaxy S4 Zoom is allegedly in development too, offering a more powerful 16-megapixel camera than the standard 13-megapixel snapper, and is rumoured to land during the first week of June.

Samsung is yet to officially confirm the new models of the Galaxy S4.
