“Simpsons” writer to pen “Angry Birds” animated film

PanARMENIAN.Net - Rovio Entertainment has tapped veteran comedy and animation scribe Jon Vitti to pen the script for its animated 3D film based on the Angry Birds app, The Hollywood Reporter said.

At the same time, veteran producer Catherine Winder is boarding the production team that already includes producer John Cohen (Despicable Me) and executive producer David Maisel (Iron Man).

Sony Pictures is distributing the movie and has a July 1, 2016 date penciled in.

Vitti won an Emmy for his work on King of the Hill, was a longtime writer-producer on The Simpsons and worked on The Simpsons Movie.

His other credits include Saturday Night Live, The Larry Sanders Show and The Office, as well as the Alvin and the Chipmunks movie.

Winder was an exec producer on Star Wars: The Clone Wars and a producer on the recent feature Escape from Planet Earth.
