PanARMENIAN.Net - A tender for 3 local air companies will be announced in late June, a spokesperson of the General Department of Civil Aviation of Armenia (GDCA) Nelly Cherchinyan told PanARMENIAN.Net

At a June 6 sitting, the government of Armenia confirmed the concept of liberalization in air transportation sector. According to the head of GDCA Artem Movsisyan, the government won’t be financing local companies or providing them with privileges.

The concept envisages for the winning 3 air companies to operate flights in 3 directions: CIS, Europe and Middle East, with the tender winners to be provided 5-year license.

As a member of the aviation subcommittee in Armenia’s Public Council Levon Ghazaryan told a June 18 news conference, GDCA must provide a unified strategy for local air companies to enable competition with foreign air carriers.

As he further added, Armenian companies working abroad are also allowed to the tender.
