Huawei brings 4G network coverage to Mount Everest

PanARMENIAN.Net - Huawei has teamed up with China Mobile to bring 4G network coverage to the heights of Mount Everest, Digital Spy said.

The companies have deployed LTE TDD technology at a base station some 5,200 metres above sea level, to provide mobile data for climbers.

"Bringing 4G to Mount Everest marks an important milestone in global LTE TDD development," said Huawei president David Wang.

"We are very excited to make this possible, and look forward to working with more operators worldwide to bring high-speed mobile broadband services anytime and anywhere."

Huawei and China Mobile previously joined forces to bring GSM coverage to the world's highest mountain, in an effort to support climber safety.

China Mobile demonstrated the 4G service last month by streaming video from one of the mountain's ridges.

British explorer Daniel Hughes made the world's first video call from the summit of Mount Everest in May, in a bid to raise £1 million for Comic Relief.
