Darchinyan to Donair: I am still going to break you

PanARMENIAN.Net - Former champion Vic Darchinyan (39-5-1, 28KOs) is upset with a recent article that appeared on BoxingScene.com, where Nonito Donaire (31-2, 20KOs) advised our Ronnie Nathanielsz that he's not completely comfortable with facing Darchinyan at 122-pounds, the sports news agency said.

Donaire crashed on the scene in July of 2007 when he knocked out Darchinyan in five rounds to capture the IBF/IBO flyweight titles. Darchinyan was a heavy favorite at the time of that fight.

Donaire says he is currently walking around at 140-pounds and doesn't appear 100% convinced that he can make the super bantamweight limit of 122-pounds in time for a proposed Darchinyan rematch on an HBO televised date of November. If the weight becomes a factor in the coming weeks, Donaire plans to debut at the featherweight limit of 126-pounds.

"No matter what excuses [you make] about weight, I am still going to break you the way I made you. Do not use steroids, think about your future and your weight will be good. I remind you again - I made you, I will break you. It's only been six years since I've been asking for rematch. After I knock you out I am going for the WBC title at 122," Darchinyan stated in a message to Donaire, passed on to BoxingScene.com.

Darchinyan's remark regarding steroids was an obvious reference to Donaire's past association with controversial conditioning coach Victor Conte. Donaire and Conte parted ways prior to Donaire's April decision loss to Guillermo Rigondeaux. Donaire was the first boxer to get tested for illegal substances with VADA under a "24/7/365" program - which allowed VADA to test him 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.
