Lawyer: Armenian truck driver to spend 25 days in psychiatric dept.

PanARMENIAN.Net - Hrachya Harutyunyan’s confinement in Butyrka pre-trial prison’s psychiatric department is necessitated by the specifics of the probe. Harutyunyan has to undergo psychiatric examination over his head injury, his lawyer Alexander Meltsev told PanARMENIAN.Net

“Harutyunyan is currently under medical care, with the examination to last 21 days, plus time to get the reports ready. He is quite comfortable and even showing signs of recovery,” the lawyer said.

A he further noted, the law does not stipulate for extradition of the driver as the crime was committed in Russia. “However, the citizen of a foreign state can serve prison term in his own country,” Meltsev said, noting that Harutyunyan hasn’t been found guilty, with preliminary investigation ongoing.

18 people died after a truck carrying macadam ran into a passenger bus in an outlying area of Moscow. The accident occurred when the truck plowed into the side of the bus near Oznobishino, a settlement in the Moscow municipality about 40 kilometres south of the city center.

The trick driver faces up to 7 year behind bars.
