Heritage: transport price hike gotv’s attempt to refund for electoral bribes

PanARMENIAN.Net - Recent transportation price hike is another one of Yerevan Municipality’s mistakes, a Heritage party representative said. As David Sanasaryan told a news conference in Yerevan, the Municipality must consider the interests of citizens, especially where such an important decision is concerned.

In this context, Sanasaryan also reminded of Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan’s earlier statement refuting the price hike rumors.

Heritage secretary Stepan Safaryan in turn, slammed the Mayor’s dismissive attitude to letters and requests for explanation. He also encouraged the protests against the increase, noting that the state is trying to compensate for the sums spent during elections.

On Thursday, July 18 a 50% increase in public transport price was confirmed, with passengers to be charged AMD 150, up from AMD 100.

The increase fuelled rallies, with several car owners joining the protesters by offering free transportation. The activists are distributing leaflets urging against paying AMD 150, some are still paying AMD 100 in protest.

On March 28, Yerevan Mayor made a statement suggesting no transportation price increase is to be expected.
