Samsung to unveil Gear smartwatch at IFA trade show – reportJuly 22, 2013 - 20:47 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Samsung will unveil its Gear smartwatch alongside its Galaxy Note 3 phablet at the IFA trade show in September, according to a report, Digital Spy said. Patently Apple claims that the South Korean firm is fast-tracking the wearable device to market in a bid to give it a head start on Apple's rumoured iOS watch. The Samsung Gear is expected to run a modified version of the Android operating system and sync with a smartphone to receive notifications. Samsung executive Lee Young Hee confirmed earlier this year that the company is developing a smartwatch device, giving rise to rumours that it will be released under the Galaxy umbrella. Photographs that allegedly depict the watch's interface appeared online back in February, but their authenticity remains unconfirmed. Apple is not the only company expected to challenge Samsung in the smartwatch market, with rumours of similar products from LG, Google and Microsoft recently emerging. The IFA trade show takes place in Berlin between September 6 and 11. Sony announced its SmartWatch 2 device last month.
