Apple v. Samsung fight next round due to begin

PanARMENIAN.Net - The ongoing patent fight between Samsung and Apple will play out on two separate stages on Friday, Aug 9, AllThingsD says.

The U.S. International Trade Commission is set to rule on whether certain Samsung products infringe on Apple technology and, if so, whether to issue an exclusion order banning the import of those products.

Both Apple and Samsung have sued each other in multiple jurisdictions in many countries over various patent complaints. The ITC had earlier issued an order banning the import of some older iPhone and iPad products but the Obama Administration stepped in last weekend to veto that move.

Meanwhile, both companies are also due in federal court in Washington, D.C., to argue over whether Apple should get a permanent injunction against the products that a San Jose, Calif., jury found infringed on Apple patents last year.

The jury awarded more than $1 billion in damages, though that figure has since been reduced. The judge in the case, Lucy Koh, refused to issue an injunction, setting the stage for Friday’s appeals court hearing.
