Apple in talks with ESPN, HBO over potential iTV apps: report

PanARMENIAN.Net - Apple is reportedly in talks with top production studios and networks over potential content deals for its long-rumoured iTV service, Digital Spy said.

According to Quartz, the California-based company has been in discussions with Disney's ESPN, Time Warner's HBO, and Viacom.

It's thought that Apple is keen to add emphasis on apps over cable television providers, given its long history and success in the app sector.

Sources claim that Apple may be trying to devise its own pay TV service with content delivered over the internet. It's also suggested that Apple's goal is to release a full-fledged television set to obtain greater control over TV viewing.

However, Apple are not alone in negotiations, as other companies are also scrambling to secure deals to boost their products.

Sony is thought to be close to striking a deal with Viacom, which would see its MTV, Comedy Central and Nickelodeon channels streamed live to the Sony TV set.

Rumours suggest that the Apple iTV could be a 4K Ultra high-definition television available in 55-inches and 65-inches.
