"The Butler" drama retains top spot at box office

PanARMENIAN.Net - Lee Daniels' "The Butler" remains unmoved over its current position at the North American box office. In its second week, the drama about a White House butler with such A-list stars as Forest Whitaker and Oprah Winfrey is still the champ with another $17 million approximately for The Weinstein Company, AceShowbiz said.

Still as strong as "The Butler" is "We're the Millers". The raunchy comedy featuring Jennifer Aniston and Jason Sudeikis as fake couple holds on to the second spot at the chart after three weeks. This time around, Rawson Marshall Thurber's pic takes in an estimated $13.5 million for Warner Bros. Pictures.

"Butler" and "Millers" see no intense competition from new entries that are expected to score big numbers. Among the newcomers, "The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones" has the greatest debut. Awarded with a "B+" CinemaScore, the Lily Collins starrer bags an estimated $9.3 million.

Trailing behind the feature adaptation of Cassandra Clare's bestselling series is Edgar Wright's "The World's End", which is given a similar "B+" CinemaScore. From Focus Features, the sci-fi flick starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost opens to approximately $8.9 million. Slasher pic "You're Next", meanwhile, debuts at No. 7 with an estimated $7 million and a poor "B-" CinemaScore.

Rounding up the top five is "Planes". The Disney animated film manages to get another $8.6 million approximately in its third run. After expanding to more screens, Woody Allen's "Blue Jasmine" is estimated to grab a decent $4.3 million.
