Google building own self-driving car, report says

PanARMENIAN.Net - Google is reportedly building its own self-driving car, Digital Spy said.

Sources claim that the company has considered a number of uses for the vehicle, including a "robo-taxi" service, according to Amir Efrati at Jessicalessin.com.

The web giant has already considered potential US cities to launch the car taxi service, that would apparently pick up passengers on demand.

It's understood that the self-driving taxi could reduce the need to own cars and thereby reduce accidents, although a human driver would sit behind the wheel at first in case of emergencies.

Google previously opened up about working on software for self-driving cars with big brand manufacturers in 2010, but it now appears that the web giant is testing such technology on its own.

It's thought that Google has now turned to auto-components companies including Continental AG and Magna International to try to build a car to its specification.

The company has also considered how it will legalise self-driving cars while developing the technology.
