"Game of Thrones" casts Sigur Ros indie band for Season 4

PanARMENIAN.Net - "Game of Thrones" has cast indie band Sigur Ros for season 4. The Icelandic group, consisting of Jon Thor Birgisson, Georg Holm and Agust Avar Gunnarsson, is set to make an appearance in the forthcoming installment of the HBO series, AceShowbiz said.

The Hollywood Reporter, which first broke the news, doesn't mention what role the musicians land, but reports that the Icelandic post-rock band has been shooting their part on the show's set in Croatia. Showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss are reportedly fans of the group.

The band have been active since 1994. Known for their ethereal sound, frontman Jónsi Birgisson's falsetto vocals, and the use of bowed guitar,[1] the band's music is also noticeable for its incorporation of classical and minimalist aesthetic elements. The band is named after Jónsi's sister Sigurrós Elin.

This is not the first time the critically-acclaimed medieval series taps a music artist. The National and The Hold Steady have performed songs on the show, "The Rains of Castamere" and "The Bear and Maiden Fair" respectively, inspired by lyrics in George R.R. Martin's "Song of Ice and Fire" novels. Coldplay's member Will Champion additionally made a cameo appearance in season 3 in the episode "The Rains of Castamere".

Sigur Ros, meanwhile, has previously landed a TV gig with a guest spot on "The Simpsons" last season.

In other "Game of Thrones" news, Mark Gatiss' role is allegedly revealed. The "Sherlock" actor who was cast in July will play Tycho Nestoris, a representative of the Iron Bank of Braavos, according to his official CV on talent agency Curtis Brown's website.
