Microsoft rolls out Internet Explorer 11 preview for Windows 7

PanARMENIAN.Net - Microsoft has made its most recent browser Internet Explorer 11 available to download in preview, Digital Spy said.

It is the first time the public has had a chance to use IE11, and the tech firm claim it is around 30% faster than other browsers in the market.

In response to developer feedback, Microsoft has made some compatibility enhancements and updates to support the latest Web standards, such as WebGL.

"As we improve performance for real-world sites, IE11's JavaScript performance on benchmarks like WebKit SunSpider continues to lead compared with [the] latest version of other browsers," Microsoft said in a blog post.

Developers received the biggest change in the form of a redesigned range of in-browser F12 tools, enabling easier building of high performance web content.

The full version of IE11 for Windows 7 is expected to be available by the end of the year. According to Mashable, Microsoft has acknowledged the software’s checkered history by releasing a video earlier this month titled “Rethink Your Relationship With Internet Explorer.”

The video features a Microsoft representative approaching real people on the street soliciting opinions about previous versions of the Web browser. Those questioned offered some rather colorful — and in some cases expletive-laced — comments about the software. Predictably, the pitch woman then shows off what the browser now looks like on a Windows 8 tablet, and then the “oohs” and “aahs” begin.

Aside from the unscientific polls and man-on-the-street demos, the fact that Microsoft is even willing to acknowledge some of the shortcomings of Internet Explorer’s past is a good sign that the software’s future may indeed be bright.

“This release also signals the final preview release before general availability of IE11 for Windows 7 later this fall," said Roger Capriotti, Microsoft’s senior director of product marketing for Internet Explorer, in a statement.
