Gevorg Kostanyan appointed new Prosecutor GeneralOctober 1, 2013 - 16:20 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - President Serzh Sagsyan, along with 103 MPs out of 108, voted in favor of appointing Military Prosecutor Gevorg Kostanyan to the post of Prosecutor General, aysor.am said. Armenian Constitution envisages for the Prosecutor General to be elected by members of parliament through a secret ballot. On September 26, President nominated Kostanyan to the post of Prosecutor General following completion of the Aghvan Hovsepyan’s service term. Hovsepyan occupied the position twice during 15 years. According to Constitution, the National Assembly appoints the President-nominated Prosecutor General for 6 years. The Prosecutor can be nominated more than twice. On January 13, President Sargsyan signed a decree on dismissal of Armen Khachatryan from the post of the Armenian Military Prosecutor. Under another decree, Advisor to the Armenian President Gevorg Kostanyan was appointed to the post of the Armenian Military Prosecutor and Deputy Prosecutor General Kostanyan has been the representative of Armenia at European Court since 2004.
