“Flowers in the Attic” best-selling novel adaptation trailer unveiled

PanARMENIAN.Net - The first official trailer for Lifetime's adaptation of V.C. Andrews' controversial best-selling 1979 novel, Flowers in the Attic, has hit the web, The Hollywood Reporter said.

Led by Heather Graham, Ellen Burstyn and Kiernan Shipka, the TV movie tells the tale of four Dollanganger siblings who, after the sudden death of their father, are convinced by their mother to stay hidden in the attic of their wealthy grandparents' mansion so she can reclaim the family fortune. Her visits start to diminish when she gets involved with a new lover, and the oldest children look to each other for comfort. Mason Dye and Dylan Bruce also star in the adaptation.

The 30-second spot, set to a cover of Guns N' Roses' "Sweet Child O' Mine," is dramatic and sets the tone for what viewers can expect when Flowers in the Attic premieres Jan. 18, 2014. Leading with the tagline, "The book you were forbidden to read," the trailer focuses on incest, the torture the children must endure and a teary Graham.

This will be the second adaptation of the popular Andrews novel. A 1987 film directed by Jeffrey Bloom and starring Louise Fletcher, Victoria Tennant and Kristy Swanson made about $15.2 million at the U.S. box office, according to Box Office Mojo.
