Helen Mirren wins London Theater Award for portrayal of Queen Elizabeth

PanARMENIAN.Net - Helen Mirren once again got acknowledged for her portrayal of the Queen of England. On Sunday, November 17, she was named Best Actress at the London Evening Standard Theatre Awards for playing Queen Elizabeth II in the West End production of "The Audience," AceShowbiz said.

The vet actress said the award should be shared with the queen. "I've always felt playing her majesty that it's actually her majesty who's winning the award and not me," she told Reuters. "I did feel very much doing a play that the response to the play was as much a response to that person, that extraordinary woman, as it was to my performance. But I should be very proud."

Mirren won an Academy Award and a BAFTA Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in 2006's movie "The Queen". She also portrayed British queen Elizabeth I on 2005's TV series "Elizabeth I", which helped her earn Emmy and Golden Globe Awards for Best Actress.

At the Theatre Awards, Rory Kinnear and Adrian Lester shared the Best Actor award for their performances in "Othello", in which the both played Olivier. "Chimerica" directed by Lucy Kirkwood was dubbed the Best Play, and Kevin Spacey nabbed Editor's Award for his contribution to British theatre. Dame Maggie Smith, meanwhile, was honored with the London Evening Standard Theatre Icon award for her contribution to the world stage.
