“We’re the Millers” director to helm “Central Intelligence” spy comedy

PanARMENIAN.Net - In one of the last deals of the year, We’re the Millers director Rawson Marshall Thurber has signed on to return to New Line to direct its spy comedy Central Intelligence. Thurber will also re-write the script, The Hollywood Reporter said.

Ed Helms is attached to star in the project, which was initially set up at Universal and was written as a spec by Ike Barinholtz and Dave Stassen.

Dean Parisot was going to direct the film while the project was at Universal, but Helms hit the pause button when he committed to a third Hangover movie. The project only recently moved to New Line.

The story centers on an accountant who, after reconnecting with an old friend via Facebook, is thrown into the world of international espionage.

Sean Anders and John Morris as well as Peter Steinfeld have worked on the script since.

Scott Stuber, Peter Principato and Paul Young are on board as producers. Helms will executive produce.

Thurber directed the Vince Vaughn-Ben Stiller comedy Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story as well as The Mysteries of Pittsburgh, the adaptation of a Michael Chabon novel.

Millers, which starred Jason Sudeikis and Jennifer Aniston, grossed $150 million domestically (becoming the top domestic comedy) and $269 million worldwide.
