Nissan announces pricing for 2014 Leaf American edition

PanARMENIAN.Net - Nissan announced pricing for the American edition of its 2014 all-electric Leaf. The car, which will be available in three trim levels, set all time sales records last year and it’s expected to have a repeat performance for this go around, EarthTechling reports.

Pricing for the 2014 Leaf will range from around $29,000 starting for the S level up to just over $35,000 for the SL. The electric car, like in past years, will net good equivalent gas mileage according to EPA standards, with MPGe ratings of 126 city, 101 highway and 114 combined.

The Leaf is powered by an advanced lithium-ion battery composed of 48 compact modules and a high-response 80kW AC synchronous motor that generates 107 horsepower and 187 lb-ft of torque. The driving range of the vehicle comes in at around 84 miles, though with all cars of this nature real world figures vary depending upon a variety of criteria, according to EarthTechling.

When the battery on this electric car gets low, it can be charged up to 80 percent of its full capacity in 30 minutes when equipped with a quick charge port and using a DC fast charger. Charging at home through a 220V outlet is estimated to take approximately five hours with the 6.6 kW onboard charger (approximately eight hours with the S grade’s standard 3.6 kW charger).

Nissan said enhancements for the 2014 model year include the addition of a rearview monitor as standard equipment on all model as well as a new “Gun Metallic” body color. The Leaf, regardless of what trim level and features come in it, is assembled in the United States at Nissan’s Smyrna, Tenn. assembly plant, with battery assembly taking place next door in the country’s largest lithium-ion automotive battery plant.
