Visual Effects Society honors “Gravity,” “Desolation of Smaug”

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Visual Effects Society proved that “Gravity” is causing as much buzz among vfx pros as it is among worldwide audiences, Variety reported.

By the time the pic collected the award for visual effects in a visual effects-driven motion picture, the org’s equivalent of best picture, it had already collected five of the six awards it was nominated for. It finished with six kudos, with star Sandra Bullock in attendance as a presenter and director Alfonso Cuaron an honoree.

Only “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug,” was able to beat out “Gravity” for a feature film vfx category, as its eponymous dragon beat out the animated George Clooney in “Gravity” for top animated character in a live-action feature.

“Frozen” swept the four awards for animated feature film, including outstanding animation in an animated motion picture.

Among TV shows. “Game of Thrones” won three TV awards including outstanding vfx in a broadcast program, with “Banshee” taking the supporting f/x prize. Also winning three awards was 30-second PSA “Peta: 98% Human.”
