U2 to perform "Ordinary Love" at Academy Awards

PanARMENIAN.Net - U2 has been confirmed to perform at the upcoming Academy Awards. Producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron announced on Wednesday, February 12 that the Irish band would take the stage at the event to sing their "Ordinary Love", AceShowbiz said.

The song, which was recorded for film "Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom", is nominated in Oscars' Best Original Song. It's up against Pharrell Williams' "Happy" from "Despicable Me 2", Karen O's "The Moon Song" from "Her" and Idina Menzel's "Let It Go" from "Frozen (2013)".

This won't be U2's first appearance at the Oscars. Bono and his bandmates came to the annual awards show for the first time in 2003, when they were nominated for song "The Hands That Built America" from film "Gangs of New York".

Since being formed in 1976, U2 has sold more than 150 million records worldwide and collected 22 Grammy awards. In 2005, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Half of Fame in their first year of eligibility.

They recently released a new song titled "Invisible", which benefits Bono's HIV/AIDS charity (RED). The new music video for the track has also been released. The black-and-white clip was directed by Mark Romanek. The group is currently readying a new album that they expect to arrive later this year.

This year's Oscars will be aired live on March 2 from the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center.
