Nike patented autolacing trainers in 2010, before auctioning off 1,500 pairs of Nike MAGs to the Michael J Fox Foundation, in honour of the actor's portrayal of Marty McFly in the 1989 movie. Although the trainers featured an LED panel and Nike logo powered by a battery, they were not actually able to autolace.
