Ernest Hemingway's steamy letter to Marlene Dietrich to be auctioned

PanARMENIAN.Net - A steamy letter from Ernest Hemingway to screen siren Marlene Dietrich is going on the auction block later this month, with the price starting at $54,000, New York Daily News reported.

The hefty price tag may have something to do with the risqué contents of the missive, which Hemingway signed as “Papa.”

Hemingway met Dietrich on a cruise from Paris to New York in 1934. The letter is from 1955, some years into their friendship.

“Dear Kraut,” Hemingway begins, launching into a response to Dietrich’s recent difficulties with a production in Las Vegas. Hemingway offers some racy suggestions for how he would take the reins of the play.

The letter is from a 250-piece collection of Dietrich’s belongings that includes sunglasses, photographs, clocks, and one of her black tuxedos.

Until the sale, some of Dietrich's belongings are on display at the Hollywood Museum in LA.
