PanARMENIAN.Net - Guy Pearce is in talks to play Whitey Bulger’s brother in Warner Bros. and Cross Creek’s “Black Mass” starring Johnny Depp as Bulger, Variety said.

Joel Edgerton is also on board with Scott Cooper set to direct. Cross Creek will co-finance the pic with Warner Bros.

Several studios have been trying to get a story about the famous Boston mob boss off the ground for years and this one looks like it will finally make it into production.

Besides being a crime boss, Bulger was also an FBI informant who used this status as a way to eliminate criminal competition. After being tipped off by a childhood friend who worked for the FBI in the early 2000s about the feds being on to him, Bulger went on the lam, living with his girlfriend in a Santa Monica apartment building, and was not caught until 2011.

Courtenay Valenti is overseeing for the studio.

Pearce’s credit’s include “Iron Man 3″ and the upcoming David Michod thriller “The Rover.”
