LEGO robot smashes Rubik's Cube world record (video) March 17, 2014 - 13:30 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - A robot built from LEGO has claimed the world record for solving a Rubik's Cube in the fastest time, Digital Spy reveals. The Cubestormer 3 solved the 3D combination puzzle in just 3.253 seconds at the Big Bang Fair held in Birmingham's NEC on Friday (March 14). The robot was designed by David Gilday and Mike Dobson, whose previous robot set the non-human record of 5.27 seconds in 2011. A Samsung Galaxy S4 smartphone powered by an Exynos 5 Octa application processor with an eight-core ARM big.LITTLE implementation takes pictures of the Rubik's Cube in order to work out the quickest possible solution. Four robotic hands then work quickly to put the cube in place, under the watchful eye of Guinness World Records editor-in-chief Craig Glenday to verify the record. "The new robot can think three times faster than its older brother," Gilday explained. "The record-breaking attempt is a bit of fun for us. "Our real focus is to demonstrate what can be achieved with readily-available technology to inspire young minds into taking a greater interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics."
