Sony Pictures Classics nabs The Who producers doc “Lambert & Stamp”

PanARMENIAN.Net - Sony Pictures Classics announced it has acquired North American and select overseas rights to James D. Cooper’s documentary “Lambert & Stamp”, which premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, Variety reported.

Centered on the pair of eponymous cinephiles in London during the 1960′s, “Lambert & Stamp” follows Chris Stamp and Kit Lambert, who set out to find a subject for their underground movie, leading them to discover, mentor and manage the iconic band that would become The Who.

Cooper, who makes his directorial debut, also lensed and produced the film, along side co-producers Loretta Harms and Douglas Graves.

“The movie captures a very unlikely partnership and the hailstorm of creativity that comes with it,” Cooper said. “Sony Pictures Classics is truly the ideal partner for distributing the film which I’ve been honored to make, and for the legacy with which I’ve been entrusted.”

The pic’s overseas rights going to Sony Classics include Australia, New Zealand, Russia, Eastern Europe and Asia.

Variety‘s Rob Nelson called the film “a definitive screen bio of the band and its rock-operatic rise, and as an incisive portrait of the two men, Chris Stamp and the late Kit Lambert, who were crucial to making that happen.”
