Billboard partnering with Twitter for new real-time music chartsMarch 28, 2014 - 11:00 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Billboard is partnering with Twitter to launch its first ever real-time music charts, Digital Spy reported. The Billboard Twitter Real-Time Charts will roll out in the next several weeks, and provide up-to-date rankings of songs and artists' popularity based on social media conversations. Billboard will house the chart on its website and on its Twitter account through its new Twitter Amplify partnership, providing in-tweet chart data for social media users. Trends will be ranked on a real-time basis and over extended periods of time to track longevity of top songs and artists' popularity. Twitter's music boss Bob Moczydlowsky said in a statement: "Twitter is where the music of the moment is discovered and discussed - every day, new songs and new artists are breaking on the platform. "We're partnering with Billboard to create a ground-breaking chart to track the conversation around music as it happens. "This means when artists share songs and engage with their audience on Twitter, the buzz they create will now be visible to fans, other musicians and in real time." The move continues Billboard's efforts to expand the ranking qualifications of its charts beyond radio airplay and sales.
