Nalbandian, Ohanyan reappointed as Foreign, Defense Ministers

PanARMENIAN.Net - President Serzh Sargsyan signed a decree today, April 15 to reappoint Edward Nalbandian and Seyran Ohanyan to the posts of Ministers of Foreign Affair and Defense respectively.

The officials, who assumed their posts in 2008, have been appointed to their 4th terms.

In 1978-1983, Edward Nalbandian served in the USSR Embassy in Lebanon; in 1983-1986: Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the USSR; in 1986-1992: Counsellor of the USSR Embassy, then Russian Federation Embassy in Egypt. In 1992-1993, Nalbandian served as a Chargé d’Affaires of the Republic of Armenia in Egypt; 1994-1998: Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to Egypt, Marocco and Oman (with residence in Cairo). In 1999-2008 Nalbandian was an Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to France; in 2000-2008, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to Israel (with residence in Paris). In 2001-2008: Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to Vatican (with residence in Paris); in 2004-2008: Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to Andorra (with residence in Paris), in 2006-2008: Personal Representative of the President of Republic of Armenia in International organization of Francophonie.

In 1983 Seyran Ohanayan served in the Soviet Army Group in Germany; in July 1988 he was transferred to the Trans-Caucasian Military District and appointed to the post of commander of rifle-company of the 366th motor-shooting regiment in the city of Stepanakert. In August 1989, Ohanayan was appointed to the post of assistant to the commander of the rifle battalion of this regiment; followed by the September 1990 appointment to the post of commander of the rifle battalion. In April 1992, after removal of the motor-shooting regiment from Stepanakert, he continued the service in the NKR army of defense and participated in military operations on all fronts. In December 1992, Ohanyan was appointed to the post of chief of staff of the Committee of Self-Defense of the NKR. In September 1994 - October 1998, he got the post of first assistant to the commander of the army of defense. In October 1998, by the Order of the RA Minister of Defense, he was appointed commander of the 5th Army Corps. In August 1999, by decree of the President of NKR, he was appointed the Minister of Defense of the NKR. In January 2000, he got the post of the NKR Minister of Defense-commander of the army of defense. In May 11, 2007, by RA President's decree, he was appointed to be RA First Deputy Minister of Defense - Chief of RA Armed Forces General Staff. In April, 2008, he took the post of the RA Minister of Defense.
