Oscar winner Andrea Arnold to shoot U.S.-based film “American Honey”May 8, 2014 - 10:57 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - British filmmaker Andrea Arnold is to shoot her first U.S.-based film, “American Honey” this summer. Protagonist Pictures will introduce the pic to buyers at Cannes. The road movie centers on a runaway teenager selling magazine subscriptions around the U.S., who gets caught up in a whirlwind of hard-partying, law-bending and young love. Arnold penned the screenplay. Pic will be produced by Lars Knudsen and Jay Van Hoy (“Beginners,” “Love Is Strange”) of New York-based Parts & Labor. Also producing are Thomas Benski and Lucas Ochoa from Pulse Films, alongside Pouya Shahbazian of Man Down Pictures. Film4 developed the film with Arnold, and is backing it. Arnold won an Academy Award in 2003 for her short film “Wasp.” Her first two features, “Red Road” in 2006 and “Fish Tank” in 2009, both won BAFTAs, and both were awarded the Jury Prize at Cannes. In 2011, her adaptation of Emily Bronte’s “Wuthering Heights” played in competition at Venice. “American Honey” will be her fourth feature, and the first to shoot outside of the U.K. Arnold is head of the Critics’ Week jury in Cannes this year.
