“Amelie” helmer's “Prodigious T.S. Spivet” to open Munich Film Fest

PanARMENIAN.Net - Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s “The Young and Prodigious T.S. Spivet” will open the Munich Film Festival, which will also fete director Walter Hill and producer Arthur Cohn, Variety reported.

Jeunet’s film, which is based on the young adult novel by Reif Larsen, stars Helena Bonham Carter and Kyle Catlett.

Jeunet is best known for feature debut “Delicatessen” and “Amelie,” which grossed $170 million worldwide. His other pics include “The City of Lost Children,” “Alien: Resurrection” and “A Very Long Engagement.”

The festival is to present the first complete retrospective of Hill’s work worldwide.

“For almost four decades Walter Hill has been one of America’s most innovative directors,” said festival director Diana Iljine. “Time and time again his films seem to achieve the impossible by spanning the gap between entertainment and art. Having Walter Hill here will be one of the highlights of the festival.”

Hill will be at almost all of the screenings to introduce them in person, and will also talk to the press and the public as part of “Filmmakers Live” on July 3.

The retrospective consists of 19 films and two TV movies, as well as four episodes from TV series, such as the pilot for “Deadwood.” His pics include “Driver,” starring Ryan O’Neal, “The Warriors” and “48 Hrs.”

Cohn will be the fest’s guest of honor. On July 1, Cohn will talk about his body of work and his experience in Hollywood. He will also present the film “The Children of Huang-Shi.”

“Arthur Cohn is more than just a successful producer,” Iljine said. “He is a filmmaker with passion, sensitivity and a profoundly human disposition. Many of his films are classics of film history.”

Cohn, who has won six Oscars, has produced such pics as “One Day in September,” “Central Station” and “The Chorus.” His other pics include “The Garden of the Finzi Continis” and “Dangerous Moves.”

The fest runs June 27-July 5.
