“Wondrous Strange” popular YA book series to get TV treatmentJuly 15, 2014 - 12:59 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Canadian indie producer Shaftesbury has optioned the TV rights to Lesley Livingston’s YA trilogy Wondrous Strange, with an eye to developing a genre series, The Hollywood Reporter said. The Toronto-based producer optioned for the small screen the supernatural book series about the adventures of a young woman who discovers she is the long-lost heir to the Faerie realm. “By putting a refreshingly darker spin on classic fairy lore, Wondrous Strange offers an entirely new fantasy world that has never been seen before, with empowering, believable characters who speak directly to the young female demographic," Maggie Murphy, head of L.A.-based Shaftesbury U.S., said Monday in a statement. The three-book series includes Wondrous Strange, released in 2009, Darklight, in 2010, and Tempestuous, in 2011. Shaftesbury's youth-themed programming credits include The CW acquiring Backpackers from Smokebomb Entertainment, a division of Shaftesbury, and The Listener, a sci-fi series that aired briefly on NBC.
