Mark Romanek in talks to helm “The Shining” prequel “The Overlook Hotel”

PanARMENIAN.Net - In a match seemingly made in movie heaven, “One Hour Photo” filmmaker Mark Romanek is in negotiations to direct the ”Shining” prequel “The Overlook Hotel” for Warner Bros., TheWrap said citing an individual familiar with the project.

Based on Stephen King‘s original prologue to “The Shining,” which was cut from the book prior to publication in 1977, the film will tell the origin story of the Overlook Hotel through the eyes of its first owner, Bob T. Watson. A robber baron at the turn of the 20th century, Watson scaled the remote peaks of the Colorado Rockies to build the grandest resort in America, and a place he and his family would also call home.

Mythology's Brad Fischer, James Vanderbilt and Laeta Kalogridis are producing the film, which was written by “The Walking Dead” show runner Glen Mazzara.

King recently published a sequel to “The Shining” titled “Dr. Sleep,” which Warner Bros. is also developing for the big screen.

Romanek, who is also attached to direct Casey Affleck in “The Boston Strangler” for Warner Bros., most recently directed the underrated sci-fi movie “Never Let Me Go.”

The news was first reported by Variety.
