Benedict Cumberbatch as genius codebreaker in “Imitation Game” trailer

PanARMENIAN.Net - The first trailer for World War II historical drama The Imitation Game, starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Keira Knightley, hit the Internet amid news that the movie will open the BFI London Film Festival in the fall, The Hollywood Reporter said.

The film focuses on the code-breaking efforts of the Allied forces. In particular, it highlights the life and work of British mathematician Alan Turing (Cumberbatch), who is often credited as the originator of modern computer science and is famous for his decryption of the Enigma code used by the Nazis.

The trailer depicts Turing’s race against time as Nazi forces threaten to overtake Great Britain and the government pressure impeding his creation of a machine that can “break every message, every day, instantly.” It also reveals that Turing had a very personal secret that threatened not only his work but also his life.

Festival director Clare Stewart said of the film: “Featuring extraordinary performances from the British talent in front of the camera and vividly directed by Morten Tyldum, The Imitation Game does cinematic justice to Alan Turing’s vision, determination and personal story as well as his enduring impact on British history and contemporary life."

The opening night gala, set for Oct. 8, will also serve as the European premiere of the film. It will take place at the Odeon Leicester Square cinema in London. Studio Canal will release the film Nov. 14 in the U.K., and The Weinstein Company will oversee the U.S. release starting Nov. 21.

The film also stars Rory Kinnear (Skyfall), Matthew Goode (A Single Man), Mark Strong (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy), Charles Dance (Game of Thrones), Allen Leech (Downton Abbey) and Matthew Beard (An Education).
