The studio has picked up the family adventure comedy with heart as a starring vehicle for Steve Carell, The Hollywood Reporter said. Carell will produce the project with his partners at Carousel Productions, Charlie Hartsock and Vance DeGeneres. The trio are partnering with Disney-based David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman of Mandeville Films. David Reynolds, who was nominated for an Oscar for co-writing Pixar's 2003 classic Finding Nemo, is penning the script. The project is based on an original idea by Reynolds, Hartsock and Degeneres. Plot details are vague in order to protect the project's secrets, but it is known that Brooklyn Family Robinson centers on the patriarch of a family, to be played by Carell, who relocates his family from city life to island life. Kristin Burr is overseeing for the studio. Reynolds, who also worked on animated fare such as Atlantis: The Lost Empire and The Emperor's New Groove, is repped by Gersh and Ziffren Brittenham. Hoberman and Lieberman just set up the untitled Tupperware movie at Sony, which has Sandra Bullock attached as 1950s marketing exec Brownie Wise. The last produced Muppets Most Wanted for Disney. Brooklyn Family Robinson reteams Carell with Disney, as he stars in the studio's family movie Alexander and Terrible, Horrible, No Good Very Bad Day, which is due to open Oct. 10. His drama Foxcatcher, meanwhile, will have its North American premiere at the Toronto Film Festival. Carousel just set up the comedy International Incident at Summit with Ken Jeong attached to star.
