Zurich Fest to feature Al Pacino, Michael Keaton, Kevin Kline-starrers

PanARMENIAN.Net - The 10th Zurich Film Festival has unveiled its first Gala Premieres, which include David Gordon Green’s drama “Manglehorn” and Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s tragicomedy “Birdman”, Variety reported.

Other films among the Gala Premieres are Israel Horovitz’s comedy “My Old Lady,” Frederick Wiseman’s documentary film “National Gallery,” the dramas “The Cut” by Fatih Akin and “Le Meraviglie” by Alice Rohrwacher, as well as the music drama “Whiplash” by Damien Chazelle.

“Manglehorn,” which stars Al Pacino and Holly Hunter, focuses on a lonely locksmith living in a small Texas town who is obsessed with the love of his life, whom he lost 40 years previously when he was jailed.

“Birdman” stars Michael Keaton as a one-time star actor, famous for his portrayal of a superhero, who has hit on hard times.

“My Old Lady” stars Kevin Kline as a New Yorker who inherits an apartment in Paris, only to find that somebody else is living there. Maggie Smith plays Mathilde, a cultivated old lady who claims to be a contractually agreed life-long resident. Pic also stars Kristin Scott Thomas.

“National Gallery,” which goes on behind the scenes at the National Gallery in London, is a film about the power of art, and a portrait of a remarkable institution.

“The Cut” is set in Turkey in 1915, when an Armenian blacksmith is separated from his family, and manages to escape the genocide. He receives news years later that his twin daughters have also survived, and sets out to trace them.

“Le Meraviglie” centers on 12-year-old Gelsomina and her family, which gets by on beekeeping in the middle of no-where in northern Italy. Rohrwacher’s second feature won the Grand Jury Prize at Cannes.

“Whiplash” centers on 19-year-old drummer Andrew (Miles Teller) at an elite music school in Manhattan. He catches the attention of music teacher Terence Fletcher (J.K. Simmons), who invites him to join his jazz band. The brutal perfectionist pushes the young musician to his physical and mental limits.
