Netflix acquires hotly-anticipated Batman prequel series

PanARMENIAN.Net - Netflix moves fast to acquire one of the hotly anticipated fall new series. The streaming service has landed rights to FOX's Batman prequel series "Gotham" even before it premiered its first season, AceShowbiz said.

" 'Gotham' is the most anticipated new series of the fall season and we are thrilled to offer it to our members around the world," said Ted Sarandos, Netflix's chief content officer, in a statement. "The Batman origin story is sure to have massive global appeal so it is fitting that, along with Warner Television, we have created a new model for distributing a show that international and domestic audiences will love."

Jeffrey R. Schlesinger, president, Warner Bros. Worldwide Television Distribution, also commented on the deal, "In this era of new business models and expanding windows, this is an unprecedented deal for our company and our industry."

The first season of the drama series will become available on Netflix in 2015 after its debut Monday, September 22 at 8 P.M. on FOX. The next season(s), if there is, will be available for subscribers after its initial broadcast run.

"Gotham" is the latest TV show acquired by Netflix. The company recently landed exclusive streaming rights to NBC's "The Blacklist" for $2 million per episode.
