Apple unveils iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus at launch event

PanARMENIAN.Net - Apple has lifted the lid on the iPhone 6 and the larger iPhone 6 Plus at a launch event in Cupertino, California, Digital Spy reported.

The new handsets sport bigger screens, top of the line internal specifications and a brand new look and feel.

The iPhone 6 has a 4.7-inch, 1334 x 750 Retina HD screen capable of displaying more than 1 million pixels, while the iPhone 6 Plus has a 5.5-inch, 1920 x 1080 Retina HD panel that displays over 2 million pixels, 185% more than the iPhone 5S.

Apple's new handsets are also slimmer than before, measuring 6.9mm and 7.1mm respectively, and mark a return to the curved design of old.

Both the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are powered by Apple's A8 chip, which has 2 billion transistors, making it up to 25% faster than the iPhone 5S, with twice as much graphical prowess.

The new iPhones also come with the new M8 motion processor built-in for more accurate fitness tracking, and an on-board barometer for measuring altitude through air pressure.

Apple's flagship device now supports LTE up to 150Mbps from more than 200 carriers around the world, and comes with "Voice over LTE" technology on board, a new mobile voice system which sends vocals over the same data network that carries web pages and apps.

The phones also support Wi-Fi speeds of up to three times faster than before and allow users to make calls over a wireless connection.

Apple's larger iPhone will provide 24 hours of 3G talk time, with the former lasting 14 hours. The former offers 80 hours of audio playback and the latter lasts through 50 hours.

The main camera is still an 8-megapixel affair, but this time it features New Focus Pixels for phase-detection and autofocus, like an SLR.

The iPhone 6's rear camera offers digital image stabilisation, but the iPhone 6 Plus goes one better with optical image stabilisation. Both are capable of HD video recording at 1080p and 60 frames a second.

A new FaceTime HD camera resides on the front, with an all-new sensor and a larger f/2.2 aperture that allows in 81% more light than its predecessor on the iPhone 5S.

An NFC payments system dubbed Apple Pay is launching along with the new iPhones, allowing users to make contactless payments at brick and mortar retailers, but this will be exclusive to the US at launch.

The iPhone 6 will be available in gold, silver and space grey, with prices starting at $870 for a 16GB model, running up to $1125 for 128GB.

Apple's iPhone 6 Plus comes in the same colours, costing $1000 for the 16GB model, $1125 for 64GB and $1270 for 128GB.

The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will be available to pre-order on September 12, and will be released in the US and eight other countries on September 19.
