According to the Nagorno Karabakh State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons, Muzafarzade, aged 15 was returned to Azerbaijan with the assistance of the ICRC mission in Stepanakert. The handover took place September 11 in the village of Bash Karvend at the Nagorno Karabakh-Azerbaijani border.
