Ray Bradbury’s science fiction & art collection put up for auction

PanARMENIAN.Net - Ray Bradbury’s science fiction and animation art collection is going up for auction on Sept. 25, The Hollywood Reporter said.

Los Angeles auctioneers Nate D. Sanders are handling the sale of the famed writer’s collection. Bradbury, the famed writer of Fahrenheit 451 and Something Wicked This Way Comes who died in 2012, was a prolific collector.

Among the highlights of the collection are a 1946 Charles Addams painting of ghoulish creatures flying at twilight that appeared on the cover Bradbury's 2001 book From the Dust Returned. Bidding for the painting starts at $32,500.

Also up for sale is a painting by Raymond Bayless, whose well-known paintings of planes and space scenes hang in the National Air & Space Museum. Bradbury owned his War of the Worlds, H.G Wells painting of the climatic scene from the book. Opening bids on that start at $17,500.

Louis Glanzman’s original cover painting for Bradbury’s 1963 collection of short stories, The Illustrated Man, will be sold with an opening bid of $15,000.

A Prince Valiant newspaper comic strip inscribed by creator Hal Foster (Bradbury was a big fan) is being sold with a starting bid of $14,000.

Bradbury also owned 43 original Disney animation cels and original cels from The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. The animation art is also being sold.

The auction takes place on Sept. 25 at Sanders' Los Angeles office and online.
