"True Detective" hit series Season 2 casting draws mixed reactions

PanARMENIAN.Net - After HBO confirmed Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn would star on "True Detective" season 2, Twitter is flooded with reactions from fans. Some are excited to see the two movie actors on the show, while others don't like the casting choices.

Among those who support Farrell and Vaughn's casting is Tierney Bricker who wrote, "Colin Farrell + Vince Vaughn = #WeddingCrashers2. JK, it's #TrueDetectiveSeason2, but I would've been down for the other, too." Ramy Zabarah tweeted, "YES! My dream has come true! Vince Vaughn just confirmed for #TrueDetectiveSeason2."

"I for one am excited to see Vince Vaughn in true detective. I think he will step up and kill. #VinceVaughn #TrueDetectiveSeason2," Blake Beliles added.

Maggie Furlong, who is among those who oppose to the casting, wrote on Twitter, "So basically this is the True Detective casting call: Must be male, white, tall and great at mumbling."

Jake Fogelnest also shared his opinion, "Vince Vaughn and Colin Farrell? Should be a fun laid back set," while another Twitter user with the name ms meh wrote, "Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn confirmed for #TrueDetectiveSeason2!? Ugh. Way to ruin a good show HBO!"

Josh Lincoln Dickey said he's "disappointed too," but still gives the show a chance as writing, "But it's not a crime to have two male leads in a television show. (Yet) #TrueDetectiveSeason2." Lake Gorman also thinks people should stop criticizing the show before seeing it, tweeting, "What's everyone slagging #TrueDetectiveSeason2 off for? Have a little faith people!"

HBO announced the casting news along with details of Farrell and Vaughn's characters. The "Total Recall" actor will star as Ray Velcoro, "a compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him."

"Wedding Crashers" star Vaughn, meanwhile, will portray Frank Semyon, "a career criminal in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner."

The second season of the Emmy-nominated series will revolve around "three police officers and a career criminal must navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder." The network said "additional casting will be announced as it is confirmed."

Cary Fukunaga who won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series for the show won't return for the second season. "Fast and Furious" director Justin Lin will reportedly direct the first two episodes.
