“Mortdecai” Johnny Depp crime comedy release date moved

PanARMENIAN.Net - Johnny Depp’s crime comedy “Mortdecai” will steal into theaters two weeks early, Lionsgate said, according to Variety.

The story of a hapless art dealer entangled in larceny on a globe-trotting scale will debut on January 23 as opposed to its original release date of February 6. That sets it up against the Jennifer Lopez thriller “The Boy Next Door.” In its previous perch, “Mortdecai” would have gone toe to toe with the Wachowskis “Jupiter Ascending,” the fantasy adventure, “Seventh Son” and “The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water.” The film co-stars Gwyneth Paltrow and Ewan McGregor.

The studio seems high on the film and even hinted at the possibility for sequels on a February 2014 call with investors and analysts.

To make room for “Mortdecai,” Lionsgate will shift romantic drama “The Age of Adaline” from that January release date to April 24. The film stars Harrison Ford and Blake Lively and centers on a woman who has an accident that prevents her from aging. In its new slot, the film will face competition from Bill Murray’s “Rock the Kasbah” and will get a weekend before “The Avengers 2″ debuts and rules the box office.
