Expert: real independence is earned through years

PanARMENIAN.Net - Economic problems have always separated nations and countries, each thinking that if the common treasury has been emptied, they can build their own wealth independently. Aggravation of contradictions has introduced the fashion of independence referenda across Europe. Scotland has already held the vote; Catalonia is waiting for its turn, expert at the Russian-Armenian Commonwealth Denis Dvornikov said.

Scotland will remain part of the United Kingdom -- along with England, Wales and Northern Ireland -- following a historic referendum vote. By 55% to 45%, a majority of voters rejected the possibility of Scotland breaking away and becoming an independent nation. Shortly afterward, Alex Salmond, the Scottish first minister and leader of the pro-independence Scottish National Party, announced his resignation from both posts, effective in November. Salmond accepted the defeat and urged the rest of the pro-independence camp to do the same.

Some experts think that the Nagorno Karabakh Republic should be guided by the Scottish and Catalonian experience in struggle for independence, given the legality of their referenda. The current processes are interesting but not worthy of interfering due to three reasons, according to Dvornikov

“The first reason is the relations with the EU major member countries. Does Artsakh need to irritate world powers like United Kingdom and Spain? The second reason is inappropriateness of analogy: Azerbaijan is far from being Great Britain while Aliyev doesn’t resemble Spanish King Philip. The British and Spaniards expanded their territories, basing on their strength and intellect. Meanwhile, Nagorno Karabakh was given to Azerbaijan as a result of soviet misunderstanding by those rulers, who killed millions of people,” Dvornikov told PanARMENIAN.Net

The third reason, according to him, is that referendum is one of the steps to get independence.

“The real independence is earned through years. The main achievement of Artsakh is sustainable development under hard geopolitical circumstances,” Dvornikov stressed.

Karabakh should not be compared either with Abkhazia or South Ossetia or any other states, which gained independence by failing to develop statehood. The leadership of NKR have succeeded in building a state with true European culture. This is much more important than count of ballots and conduction of rallies,” he concluded.
