China’s “Black Coal, Thin Ice” tops Golden Horse Awards nominations

PanARMENIAN.Net - China’s “Black Coal, Thin Ice” received eight Golden Horse Awards nominations, topping the contenders list. It was nominated in categories including best film, best director, best actor and best actress, Variety said.

The Golden Horse Awards, which are open to films in the Chinese language or a regional Chinese dialect, will be presented in Taiwan on Nov. 22, at the end of the Golden Horse festival (Nov. 6-22).

China’s “Blind Massage,” with 7 nominations, came second, while Taiwanese historical sports drama “KANO” amassed 6 nominations.

Awards will be decided by a jury chaired by Joan Chen that also includes Stanley Kwan, Aaron Kwok, Chen Po-Wen, Hwarng Wen-Ying and Stephen Fung.

Jimmy Huang, producer of this year’s Busan opening film “Paradise in Service,” and “Campus Confidential,” was announced as recipient of the Outstanding Taiwanese Filmmaker of the Year Award. Sylvia Chang, chair of the committee, said that Huang was being recognized “for his continuous efforts in producing Taiwanese films with great diversity, which expands the realm and imagination of the industry.”

Nominees for best leading actor include Chang Chen (“Brotherhood of Blades”), Chen Jian-Bin (“A Fool”), Liao Fan (“Black Coal, Thin Ice”), Masatoshi Nagase (“KANO”) and Sean Lau Ching-wan (“The White Storm”).

Nominees for Best Leading Actress are Chen Shiang Chyi (“Exit”), Gong Li (“Coming Home”), Gwei Lun-Mei (“Black Coal, Thin Ice”), Tang Wei (“The Golden Era”) and Zhao Wei (“Dearest”).
