“Gente de Bien” coming-of-age drama wins at Film Fest Gent

PanARMENIAN.Net - “Gente de Bien”, a coming-of-age drama by Colombian-born, Paris-schooled filmmaker Franco Lolli that initially screened at Cannes in May, was awarded the top prize, the Grand Prix for Best Film, at the 41st edition of Film Fest Gent in Belgium. The kudo comes with €20,000 value (approximately $25,500) to support its release in Flanders and Brussels.

The Georges Delerue Prize for best sound design was bestowed to Boris Debackere for his work on “Violet,” another story told from the P.O.V. of a child, directed by Bas Devos. The Gent jury applauded the film for “the inventive soundscape which mirrors the poetic richness of its 65mm image.”

“Jauja,” by Lisandro Alonso, received a Special Mention by the jury.

In addition, Lukas Dhont’s “L’Infini” won best Belgian student short, and Konstantina Kotzamani’s “Washingtonia” copped the prize for best European short.
