Lead actor Jamie Dornan talks role in “Fifty Shades of Grey”November 3, 2014 - 16:23 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Anyone out there hoping that the upcoming Fifty Shades of Grey adaptation will be as graphic as E.L. James novels may be disappointed, with star Jamie Dornan discussing how his stint as the billionaire BDSM-fan Christian Grey doesn’t see him pulling a Gerard Depardieu, The Hollywood Reporter said. "You want to appeal to as wide an audience as possible without grossing them out. You don’t want to make something gratuitous, and ugly, and graphic," he told the U.K.’s Observer newspaper in an interview, adding that he thought the film would more rely on viewers’ imagination. "[Director] Sam [Taylor-Johnson] is a very bright woman, so there might be some suggestive elements to it, but I haven’t seen it at this stage, so it is hard for me to say," he added. "I’m aware of what we shot, and it wasn’t as if we shot a film without any action." Dornan also described himself as a feminist and denied that he was worried about the film glorifying sexual violence against women. "I think it’s very hard to argue that when it is all consensual. Half the book is about making contracts. Permission and agreement that this be done. There’s no rape, no forced sexual situations," he said. He also said that spanking co-star Dakota Johnson was anything but a turn-on. "Anyone who thinks actors get turned on doing sex scenes in films is mistaken," Dornan said. "There are dozens of hairy men standing around, moving cables and lighting equipment. That’s not sexy unless you’re into being watched, which I’m not."
